A sharing table is available in the fellowship hall. This is a place to bring your surplus fruits and vegetables to share with the congregation. If there is something on the table you can use, please feel free to take it! This is just another way we can work together for the good of all.
This year the GOBA riders are taking an abbreviated trip and Oakland will be their first stop. We will be providing a rest area with tables and chairs out in the yard. There will be water for filling their water bottles and snacks. Six volunteers are needed for this event. They should begin arriving around 7am so volunteers will need to be here by 6:30am. They are expecting less than 200 riders. A sign-up sheet is available at the Welcome Center. Please contact Frank Marchal for more details.
Our church is now open, and we are still worshiping together in a variety of ways, and in need of individuals or families to lead us in our weekly worship service. The requirements are minimal: the ability to stand at the front of the church and read or time to record your voice in an mp3 or mp4 format, as well as email the recordings to the church. A visual recording may be sent in too! Or, arrangements can be made to make a recording, following safe distance protocol. We have the following dates available for your gifts to shine in 2021: August 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th. Please contact Ronda Scammahorn at 937-564-0832 (text is best), or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Old German Baptist Brethren Conference
Oakland will again be serving food for the Old German Baptist Brethren Conference. The conference will be on Saturday, June 4th through Tuesday, June 7th, 2022. The site is 4 miles SE of Eaton at 2976 Wayne Trace Road, Eaton, OH. It is 37 miles from Oakland with an estimated driving time of 45 minutes.
The Camping and Retreat Ministries has decided to cancel the virtual camps for this summer due to low interest. In an effort to get campers and their families together, two events are being planned for everyone in the district at Salem Church of the Brethren on June 27th and July 25th from 4:00-7:00pm. These events will include fun and games, free picnic supper and vespers. Volleyball, kickball, corn hole and the playground will all be available. There will be lots of time to relax and chat with friends as we share the evening together in Christian fellowship.
The in-person Pieceful Quilting Camp will still be held at Bergamo, August 18th – 21st. Please check the Welcome Center for info.
NATIONAL OLDER ADULT CONFERENCE IS COMING UP — SEPTEMBER 6-10, 2021 – OVERFLOWING WITH HOPE!
NOAC will be entirely on-line this year, but still will include many favorite things: the daily morning Bible Study with Joel Kline; a variety of afternoon workshops; virtual “field trips” to historic Brethren sites; NOAC NEWS; worship services and more! Keynote speakers include long-time favorites, musician Ken Medema and comedian Ted Swartz; and preachers include Christy Dowdy from Bridgewater (VA) Church of the Brethren; Don Fitkee from Lancaster (PA) CoB; Paula Bowser from Troy CoB; Eric Landram from Lititz (PA) CoB; and our very own interim pastor Andrew! REGISTRATION fees are $100 for an individual; and $150 for a couple; and it has already opened on-line at www.brethren/org/NOAC. You may request a paper registration form by calling 1-800-323-8038 ext. 303. If you have questions, please ask Pastor Paula, who is serving on the NOAC Planning Team and as co-coordinator of the Worship Planning Team again this year. And REMEMBER — NOAC IS FOR ANYONE AGE 50 AND UP! We’ll miss Lake Junaluska this year, but it’s still going to be jam-packed with meaningful speakers and activities! (if you need help with registering, Pastor Paula will be happy to help you with that. Give her a call at 937-467-5672.)
Our efforts have paid off! All our donations have been totaled and we have $5,618.50 to purchase an ark of animals along with other items! Below is a list of what our money has been used for:
An Ark of animals (including two water buffalo, two cows, two sheep and two goats, along with bees, chicks, rabbits and more)
Sending two girls to school
And, a share of a goat.
Thank you to all who contributed!
We would like to remind you about how important it is to keep up with your tithes and offerings. The past year has taught us a lot about preparing for the unexpected. There may be needs that arise in the next few months that will lead us to unique ministry opportunities’ and our giving helps fulfil that mission and meet the needs of both those within and outside the congregation. There are 3 ways you can help with this:

Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome! Leadership and tools will be provided. Lodging and meals are provided at the housing site on S. Smithville Road, Dayton. If volunteers prefer, they may spend nights at home and join the crew each morning.
